Vege Boxes for the Public
- The planting and harvesting of vegetables without the use of pesticides and herbicides and in a way that builds up soil fertility rather than depleting soil fertility. This will be measured by records of planting and yield and also by regularly testing soil samples for soil quality and fertility. This measures the impact on the environment as we learn to be guardians of our environment while still meeting our daily food needs.
- The Hands-On Farm has a planting plan that includes rotating crops, the use of cover crops and mulching the garden beds. These practices are measured against this plan. This measures the skills learnt.
- Community involvement measured by the amount of schools taking part, the partnerships formed with local businesses and support from the public when buying the produce. This measures the benefit to the local community and the reach of the project as we learn about the impact of our environment on society.
- Participation from the community. This will be measured by the numbers of volunteer workers and visits to the farm from individuals or community groups. Through this measurement the students will learn how this project builds resilience by generating interest from a diverse range of the community.
- Sale of produce to the public and delivery of produce to Schools and the 'Youth Training Kitchen'. This outcome will be measured by revenue and full use of the produce grown. This measures the economic aspect of sustainability and through this the students have the opportunity to observe that through cooperation and teaming up with others a project can become sustainable.
